Andrea Datzman
Music written by Andrea Datzman has been described in many ways. For one score “Soulful to the point of heartbreak”, in another “Gripping and full of suspense”, then “So individual and humorous its like an additional, very welcomed, character in the picture.” Working across a broad range of styles, one description has been consistent: her music feels alive, and works flawlessly within the story being told.
Andrea has worked alongside several composers: Michael Giacchino on the films "Ratatouille" and "Mission Impossible: III," and the TV shows “Alias” and “Lost,” John Ottman on the movie “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” and Jay Gruska on the TV shows "Supernatural" and "Charmed." Her music can be heard in the score for "Ratatouille" The Video Game released summer of 2007. She is currently working in collaboration with several up and coming directors creating music for independent films and documentaries.
Andrea grew up in the suburbs of San Francisco, and entered the world of music composition as an already well-polished musician and performer. She began studying piano and voice at a young age and then picked up any instrument available and taught herself to play. Early on she began writing her own music and recording it, acoustically playing every instrument into a four track recorder. By the age of 17 Andrea was known as a pianist and singer, performing weekly as a Jazz vocalist at San Francisco area Jazz venues.
It was a natural path from there to the Music Composition program at the University of California in Santa Barbara. This led to opportunities to study with many accomplished composers, including contemporary favorite Andrew Imbrie, with whom she studied in the year after receiving her Bachelors degree. Andrea relocated to Los Angeles in 2004 and was immediately hired to work, scoring music for many independent short films while attending the world-renowned USC Scoring for Motion Picture and Television graduate program. Ms. Datzman's music has been performed live in a concert at UC Santa Barbara dedicated solely to her works, and has had several orchestral recordings at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
